Last week I had an awesome chat with Dr James Hoffmann of Renaissance Periodization and co author of The Scientific Principles Of Strength Training.
For those that aren’t familiar with James, he is a professor Exercise Science at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
James earned his PhD in port Physiology under Dr. Mike Stone of ETSU, where he focused on the application of sled pushing to sport performance enhancement in Rugby players.
He has coached numerous Rugby players at ETSU as the team’s assistant coach and Head Sport Scientist, where he was also the head strength and conditioning coach and weight roommanager.
James is a lifetime athlete, having reached high levels of competition in Rugby, American Football, and Wrestling.
He is also credits for working along side Mike Israetel on The Scientific Principles Of Strength Training Book.
Enough reasons to see if the man was in for a talk. Luckily he was and as it turns out he is just as into extreme metal as I am. At the end I arm wrestled his top 3 albums out of him.
There’s loads good stuff we talked about, like:
- Why 99% of all internet keyboard warrios totally miss the boat when it comes to referencing scientific studies in their writings.
- How a simple adjustment in your training goals can give you a mental boost during a hardcore cutting period.
- A glimpse behind the scenes of Renaissance Periodization.
- How to overcome the programming barriers when you are ONLY involved in the strength training aspect of athletic development in groups.
- And much much more…
